Amanda Brugel
(February 27th, 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a sleepy community on that part of the island of Montreal known as"the West Island. The West Island, to those who have never heard of it, is an extensive part that stretches from Lachine all the way west. The West Island is frequently referred to as the birthplace of Amanda Brugel but while that may be true, her time there was not long. Brugel grew up in Courtice outside Oshawa Ontario. The first goal she had was to become an expert dancer. Then, a growth spurt caused her to outgrow her dance partners she was able to have. According to an article in the Toronto Star, she revealed that in heels she was 6 feet 1 inch tall. Once I surpassed the size of my male friends, I stopped. Bruce was among the former dancers who turned into acting. Her teacher from high school was the one who pushed her to take the next step. Her teacher advised her to audition to play the character of Anne for their school's annual production. She auditioned and was eventually cast as the role of the main character in Anne of Green Gables. The show was granted the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to go to York University's Theatre Program, where she graduated from the program in 2000, earning a degree of Bachelor's in Fine Arts. Brugel's career spans over twenty years, and she's appeared in 60 different productions, both on big screens and on smaller ones. Her most recognizable role was that of Rita (pictured in the below photo) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian cast member during the season 1 of the show and was not seen much.
